General practice & family care

Longer appointments, and the same clinician next time

Elm Ward is a four-clinician practice built around twenty-minute consultations, written follow-up and a short list of people who already know your history.

Requests are read by a clinician, not a call queue. You will have two offered times back within one working day.

Held back for today

Two slots in every weekday morning session are kept unbooked for people who need to be seen the same day. They are released at 8:30 and are not offered in advance.

If your request mentions a new or fast-changing symptom, it is triaged into one of those slots before anything else is offered.

For anything life-threatening, contact emergency services rather than this clinic.

What we see

Four lanes of care

Choosing the right lane when you write to us saves a visit. If you are unsure, say so in your request and we will place you.

  1. 01

    Everyday general practice

New symptoms, infections, injuries, sick notes, contraception, travel advice and the ordinary things that need a clinician to look at them properly.

    • 20 minute slot
    • Same-week availability
    • Written summary after
    Suits
Anyone with a single new issue they want assessed and resolved.
    Includes
Examination, a plan in writing, and a named clinician to follow up with.
  2. 02

    Long-term condition reviews

Structured reviews for blood pressure, asthma, thyroid, diabetes and medicines that need periodic checking, with your readings and results read before you arrive.

    • 40 minute slot
    • Booked in advance
    • Repeat prescriptions settled
    Suits
Ongoing conditions, several medicines, or a review that has slipped.
    Bring
Home readings, your current medicine list, and any hospital letters.
  3. 03

    Children & family sessions

Saturday morning and late-afternoon slots kept for children, including feeding and growth questions, rashes, recurrent illness and school-related concerns.

    • 30 minute slot
    • Saturday mornings
    • Siblings seen together
    Suits
Parents and carers who would rather not take a child out of a school day.
    Includes
Growth and development checks, and time for the questions you came with.
  4. 04

    Minor procedures & skin

Mole and lesion assessment, wound care, dressings, joint and soft-tissue injections, and small procedures carried out in the clinic's treatment room.

    • 45 minute slot
    • Assessment first
    • Thursday afternoons
    Suits
Anything that needs looking at closely, then treating in one sitting.
    How it works
A short assessment visit comes first so the procedure slot is the right length.

How we work

A quieter kind of clinic.

Continuity is the treatment

We keep the list small on purpose. Every patient is assigned to one clinician, and routine requests are offered with that clinician first so you are not explaining your history again from the beginning.

Notes from your visit, including the plan and anything we are waiting on, are written in plain language and sent to you the same day. If a referral is needed we write it in the room and tell you what happens next and roughly when.

Results are followed up either way. You will hear from us whether something was found or nothing was, because a silence is not a result.

Practical detail

Before your visit

The seven things people write to ask us most often, answered properly.

How do I request an appointment?
Use the request form at the bottom of this page. A clinician reads every request, decides how long you need, and replies with two offered times within one working day. Requests sent over the weekend are read on Monday morning.
What should I bring to a first visit?
A list of everything you currently take, including anything bought without a prescription, plus any hospital or specialist letters and recent results you hold. If you monitor something at home, bring the readings rather than the summary.
Can I get a repeat prescription without an appointment?
Usually yes. Send the request form with the medicine name and strength and we will issue it the same day where it is safe to do so. Some medicines need a review every six or twelve months; if yours is due, we will offer a review slot alongside the prescription rather than refusing the request.
Do you see children, and how long do they get?
Yes. Children are seen in thirty-minute slots, mostly in the Saturday morning and late-afternoon sessions so school is not disrupted. Siblings can be seen in one visit if you say so in the request.
What if I need to be seen today?
Two slots per weekday morning are held back for same-day need and released at 8:30. Mark your request as needing attention today and describe what has changed; a clinician triages it before the routine list. For anything life-threatening, contact emergency services instead.
How do I get my test results?
We contact you either way, normally within five working days of the sample reaching the laboratory. Straightforward results come with a written explanation; anything that needs discussion comes with an offered slot attached so you are not left waiting to ask.
Can I have a longer appointment if I have several things to raise?
Yes, and it is better for everyone. Ask for a double slot in your request and list the issues roughly in the order that matters to you. Forty minutes booked once is more useful than three short visits.

Appointment request

Tell us what you need

This is a request rather than a confirmed booking. A clinician decides the right length of visit and replies with two times you can choose between.

  1. You send the form with a short description of the problem.
  2. A clinician reads it and sets the slot length and lane.
  3. You receive two offered times within one working day.
  4. You reply with the one that works, and it is held for you.

Please keep clinical detail brief here. Anything sensitive is better discussed in the room, and we will ask for it then.
